Ottelia Pinot Gris 2016 - Limestone Coast, South Australia

The Story

Ottelia Ovalifolia is the horticulture name for the waterlily that blooms with white and purple flowers on the Coonawarra property that was purchased 25 years ago by John and Melissa Innes. Their plan was to only stay for ‘a little while’, now John is a 30 year veteran of Coonawarra winemaking.

M+Q Notes

The Limestone Coast consists of wine growing regions of Coonawarra, Wrattonbully, Mount Benson and Mount Gambier. This is a blend of fruit from the two areas of Mount Gambier and Robe, that are both perched on the Southern Ocean and have cool to moderate days and nights.

Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio are the same grape variety. It is a white grape with a grayish/brownish pink skin, hence the name Gris or Grey in French. The grape originated in France, it’s from the Burgundian Pinot family. It is known as Gris in Alsace and Grigio in Italy, where it is grown widely. Grigio will be harvested earlier than Gris, resulting in a crisp, lean dry white and Gris being harvested later for richer textural notes.

Light blush appearance, medium bodied, pear, green apple and lemon zest flavours with subtle spice and mineral notes.
