Milton ‘Opou Vineyard’ Chardonnay 2015 - Gisborne, New Zealand

The Story

The first biodynamic estate in New Zealand (and the first in the Southern Hemisphere to gain Demeter certification), James and Annie Millton have been growing wine in Manutuke on the banks of the Te Arai river in Gisborne since 1984. Farmed from inception in this manner, it was built on the backbone of family winegrowing in the area, with both James and Annie's parents having vines in what is now known as "Opou" and "Riverpoint". Milton is one of the iconic producers in New Zealand, not only for the acclaim of making delicious and serious wine but also for the commitment to the philosophy in which they produce wine. Milton was the first New Zealand wine estate to follow organic and biodynamic practises. Milton is located on the east coast of the north island. From the beginning James and Annie Milton understood that great grapes come from healthy vines living in healthy soil and as the highest quality was the goal they started growing their grapes bio-dynamically.

M+Q Notes

On the nose floral aromas of orange and white blossom, together with nutty acorn notes. Long and rounded mouth texture with cleansing acidity.  Roasted almonds and hazelnuts come to the fore with stone fruit in the background.

Confit chicken thigh with roast parsnips, honey hazelnuts and truffled pecorino
