L’Enologa Fiano 2016 – Murray Darling, Vic

The Story

L'enologa is Italian for 'Female Winemaker'. Elizabeth Marwood is a Mildura based winemaker with over 15 years experience in the industry. After making wine all over Australia from the Yarra Valley, to the Great Southern in Western Australia she ventured to the Emilia Romagna  region in Italy to study for a Masters in Food and Wine Culture and Communication at the University of Gastronomic Sciences. Completing her thesis project with Beppe Ca'Viola ignited her love and respect of Italian varietals and not to mention the Italian way of life. After returning to Mildura a chance encounter and a 1 spare tonne of Fiano from the Chalmers vineyard was the beginning of her own label, L'enologa. L'Enologa is a unique combination of old world meets new world with a focus on flavour. The brands emphasis is on premium quality, small batch, unique varieties that are rich in character and reflect the place from which they came. All wines are hand harvested, fermented with wild yeast and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

M+Q Notes

Very much small batch, hand crafted wines, with the ethos behind the brand is the selection of the right varieties for the climate where they are grown.

The grape variety Fiano originates from Campania in Italy’s south, with history back to ancient Roman viticulture. Fiano is also quickly establishing it’s growing potential here in Australia, becoming regarded as the most outstanding of all new white varieties in Australia. It holds an intensely flavoured full-bodied palate with honey notes and a waxy texture. It has good age-worthy potential as it develops more spicy nutty notes.
