Domaine Jean Grivot Bourgogne Chardonnay 2015 - Vosne-Romanée, Burgundy, France

The Story

Domaine Grivot is based in Vosne Romanee, in the Cote du Nuits of the northern part of Burgundy, and is home to many of the great domaines in Burgundy. Currently it is owned by the fifth generation of the Grivot family, Etienne and his wife Marielle Grivot,  Etienne took over over from his father Jean in 1987. Domaine Grivot was founded in the 1930’s and was one of the first domaines in Burgundy to bottle and sell the wines themselves. Across this 15 hectare domaine, the vine age is on average between 45-to 50-years old and covers 22 appellations (18 red) with holdings in three Grand crus: Clos de Vougeot, Echezeaux and Richebourg. In addition to the Grand cru vineyards, Domaine Grivot holds eight Premier cru vineyards including the highly regarded Les Beau Monts and Suchots vineyards. Etienne’s approach to the vineyard is one of farming with minimal impact to the environment and prevents the use of any chemicals in the vineyard, organic farming known as ‘Sans certification’.

M+Q Notes

Etienne Grivot shows in these Bourgogne Blanc and Bourgogne Rouge wines that his precision of fruit is simply perfect. For ‘entry level’ wines these really over-deliver in value and offer a terrific introduction to this producer and his wines, without the usual high prices that are attached to Burgundies coming to Australia. Domaine Grivot is predominately a red wine domaine with 19 reds produced and just this one white, quantities are small, with usually only 2000 bottles made in a good year. Stunning medium bodied Chardonnay from vines in Vosne Romanee that are harvested later than the reds.
