The Story

The Chalmers viticultural story goes back to the late 1970s with grape growing and vine propagation, it was only in the early 2000s they began to produce their own wine. Beginning with the Murray Darling Collection in 2003 they experimented with many different varieties of French, Spanish and Italian origin in an effort to find grapes that were capable of producing optimum quality in warmer, drier growing conditions. After a few vintages the focus sharpened on Italian varieties, of which they had more than 30 in the vineyard, and they put their name on the label to create Chalmers wines.

 M + Q note

Vermentino is best known from Italy from the island of Sardinia, but it is also grown widely in Liguria. Similar to Pinot Grigio, Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc. Crisp and light weight palate with citrus and white nectarine fruit, a briny wet stone note to finish.
