Bodegas Castro Martin Albariño 2016 - Rias Baixas, Spain

The Story

Angela Martin and her husband Andrew McCarthy run the Castro Martin estate, in Rias Baixas, on Spain's Galician coast. The production of Albarino at the Bodega can be traced back to 1887 by Angela’s family. However, the current cellars were constructed 1982, some five years before the D.O. of Rias Baixas was actually created. The winery was the first in the region to have stainless steel tanks and later introduced temperature controlled storage systems. The Bodega is constantly trying to innovate and recently switched from cork to synthetic closures to preserve ultimate freshness in the wines.

M+Q Notes

This Albariño has a distinct salty minerality on the nose, and an array of pure, clean, limpid white fruit aromas. The palate almost shimmers with tang and vibrancy, and although it has a steely precision, it is balanced by fruit with a peachy pear-like quality and backed by a vivid streak of lemon and mineral acidity.
