The Story

Avani is a Mornington Peninsula winery that was established by Shashi and Devendra Singh who after running restaurants for several years, decided to venture into wine. They purchased an existing vineyard in 1998 and converted it to organic viticulture by 2005. Shashi apprenticed at Bass Philip in 2004 with Phillip Jones and by 2009 she completed her first vintage on her own. A couple years later in 2012, Shashi and Devendra established their own winery in Red Hill South. Minimal intervention is the focus in the winery with wild yeast fermentation, no filtering, fining or pumping.

M+Q Notes

A delicious skin contact Pinot Gris from Avani’s second label Amrit. Aromas of tangerine, baked pear and a bit of spice on the nose. Flavours of fleshy peach, stoney minerality, brine and a sour tang element. Zesty and bright acidity that cuts through the richness of this wine.
