Huia Pinot Gris 2017 - Marlborough, New Zealand

The Story

Huia Vineyards is a family-owned vineyard based in Marlborough’s Wairau Valley. Claire and Mike Allen purchased the initial vineyard land in 1990 and then launched the Huia label in 1996, with the focus on handcrafted wines from the expressive and fertile soils of the Marlbourough region. Claire has also passionately pursued their viticulture to become fully certified organic and biodynamic with BioGro New Zealand, since 2009, with no pesticides, insecticides or herbicides used in their vineyards.

M+Q Notes

The Huia Pinot Gris is all about palate texture. It is grown on both the clay soils of the estate Winsome Vineyard and also the stony soils of the estate Huia Vineyard, this variance in soil type is important in the context of this textural Pinot Gris. It is a mixture of pear, apple, honeysuckle and quince aromas on the nose that are followed by white peach and some spice on a smooth, dry finish.
