Aphelion Clairette’s Clairette 2017 - McLaren Vale, South Australia

Aphelion Clairette’s Clairette 2017 - McLaren Vale, South Australia

The Story

The dream of Aphelion started over a bottle of Barolo in Italy and led to Rob Mack and Louise Rhodes making the move from Sydney to McLaren Vale to make their dream of starting a winery a reality. Partnering with local sustainable growers, they had their first vintage in 2014. They produce wine from grape varieties that work well with the Mediterranean climate of their region including Grenache, Mataro and Sagrantino. Their aim is to create wines that pair well with food and that you can taste “from the sun” as the name Aphelion translates to in Greek.

M+Q Notes

Rob and Louise had their first daughter, Clairette, in 2017 and decided to produce a wine from her namesake grape. Clairette Blanche is one of Southern France’s oldest grape varieties widely grown in the Rhone Valley. This wine was made in extremely small batches and has complex aromas of salty ocean air and juicy peach. Flavours include almond skin and ripe stone fruits on the medium weighted palate.
