Fairbank Ancestrale Sparkling Rosé 2017 -

The Story

Established in 1998 Sutton Grange Winery was born from a lunch with local wine hero Stuart Anderson who acclaimed the site as perfect for vine growing. Almost two decades on Sutton Grange Winery has cemented its position as one of Australia’s finest wine producers.  A winery, which is known for its stand alone rosé, acclaimed for its outstanding Syrah, and hailed for its experimentation in different varietals. The Sutton Grange creed has always been to act and make decisions based on “the best interest of the farm”. Winemaking is no different. Melanie Chester leads the team to create wines that are the best expression of the Sutton Grange farm, pushing the boundaries of the property. Marketed under two brands, Fairbank and Estate. Fairbank, the name of the property in the 1800s, contains a portfolio of wines with freshness, brightness, and vibrancy.

M+Q Notes

The 2017 Ancestrale Rose is a classic rosè from Sutton Grange made in the “methode ancestrale” or “petillant naturel” style. This means the wine finishes the end of the primary fermentation in bottle, capturing the essence of the single vintage and vineyard. It is aged on lees over winter and was lightly disgorged to remove heavy tartrates (although light lees remain).

“The 2017 Ancestrale, a lovely dusky pink in colour, is a blend of the varieties that have vibrancy of fruit at lower ripeness. This vintage is a blend of viognier, shiraz and merlot, and due to the cool conditions the wine is elegant and poised. Aromatics of peach skins, strawberries and vanillin. The palate is dry and crunchy, with a zingy and refreshing acidity. This wine contains no additives or preservatives.”
