Chalmers Rosato, Aglianico Sagrantino & Nero d’Avola 2018 - Heathcote, Victoria

The Story

The Chalmers viticultural story goes back to the late 1970s with grape growing and vine propagation, it was only in the early 2000s they began to produce their own wine. Beginning with the Murray Darling Collection in 2003 they experimented with many different varieties of French, Spanish and Italian origin in an effort to find grapes that were capable of producing optimum quality in warmer, drier growing conditions. After a few vintages the focus sharpened on Italian varieties, of which they had more than 30 in the vineyard, and they put their name on the label to create Chalmers wines. In 2017 In 2017 Chalmers have sourced the grapes for their rosato from the highest altitude, most prized block at their Heathcote site.

M+Q Notes

A unique blend from three distinctive central and Southern Italian grapes; Aglianico (63%), Sagrantino (33%) and Nero d’Avola (4%) this wine has a pretty nose of red fruit and cassia with a dry and textural palate of ripe pink grapefruit and balanced acidity. All parcels of fruit were hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed, and vini ed in two batches with the Sagrantino & Nero d’Avola parcel co-fermented in stainless steel tank, and the Aglianico parcel fermented in old French barriques. Perfect summer drinking..actually would would drink this all year round!
