WINE NOTES

Head 'Nouveau' 2016 - Barossa Valley, Australia

HEAD Wines was started in 2006 by Alex Head. It focuses on single site Rhone varietals from the Barossa and Eden Valleys in South Australia.
Each HEAD Wine shows a distinctive house style of powerful fruit weight, elegance, freshness, finesse and balance which starts by farming vineyards sustainably and in some cases using organics and biodynamics. Yields are low/controlled, grapes are hand-picked, ferments use indigenous yeasts with some retention of stems and maturation in larger format barrels. Minimal sulphur is used during the whole wine-making process and bottling is without fining or filtration. Each Head Wine not only represents Alex Head's strong views on what makes balanced, drinkable wines for the table, but a guarantee of absolute quality, value and consistency.

M+Q NOTES

An un-oaked blend of Touriga Nacional with its trademark rose petal aromatics and Montepulciano for its fresh cherry flavours and  a touch of peppery spice. Light bodied, fresh and vibrant with light tannins make this a a fantastic wine and at very affordable price.

FOOD SUGGESTION

Pappardelle with slow cooked lamb ragu and gremolata

Fiorini Chianti Superiore 2014 DOCG - Chianti, Tuscany

THE WINE'S STORY

To qualify for Superiore, the grapes must come from the Chianti DOCG – including any of its seven sub zones (Aretini, Fiorentini, Pisane, Senesi, Montalbano, Montespertoli, Rufina), have a minimum alcohol level of 12% and be aged for at least nine months.

M+Q NOTES

Fiorini is mostly Sangiovese (90%) with small amounts of Cabernet, Canaiolo and Ciliegiolo, aged in a combination of new and old barriques and tonneaux. Perfumed fruit of classic cherry and violets with berries and spice of cinnamon, cloves and pepper. The palate balances sweet and savoury notes with weight and substance, the fine grained tannins supporting a long finish.

Dub Style No. 4 Red Mix 2014 - McLaren Vale, South Australia

THE WINE'S STORY

Dub wines is a project of The Inkwell vineyard in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Winemakers Dudley Brown and Irina Santiago are both mid-life converts to winegrowing and winemaking in Australia. Originally from the USA and Brazil respectively, they are fanatical about our their vines and their wines, producing wines with a focus on integrity and expression of each vineyard site. As sensibly as possible, they have removed inorganic products from their vineyard sites.

The Dub style is savoury, spicy and packed with dark brambly fruit.

M+Q NOTES

2014 No.4 Re-Mix - Medium bodied blend of Grenache and Mataro (Mouvedre). Blended from small batch ferments utilising whole bunch and whole fruit creates an approachable savoury and earthy 'can't miss' wine. No.4's fruit was handpicked from two special McLaren Vale vineyards in the Tatachilla district of McLaren Vale.
