Wine Notes

Erste + Neue Pinot Grigio 2016 - Sudtirol, Italy

THE WINE'S STORY

Sudtirol or South Tyrol is the Provence of Bolzano in the North East of Italy, it is also known by it’s alternative name of Alto Adige. The region is nestled beside the Austrian boarder and has distinct Austrian and German influences. This area is ‘hard core’ in its winegrowing. Think high altitude, enormous mountains, steep terraced vineyards, and particularly intensive winemaking practices that useenvironment friendly techniques.

Erste meaning ‘first’ and Neue meaning ‘New’ is a wine co-operative founded in 1925 that is current day made up of 400 dedicated wine growers that bring their harvests to the winery each year.

SOMMELIER NOTES

Pinot Grigio sometimes lacks the vivid freshness of Pinot Bianco/Weissburgunder, but the best examples from the Alto Adige have the typical varietal texture and spice notes punched up with good bright acidity. Erste & Neue's Pinot Grigio is absolutely textbook: pear, apple, hint of nutmeg, very good balance of weight and acidity.

Adelina 'Refusal To Lie' Chardonnay 2016 - Adelaide Hill

THE WINE'S STORY

The Adelina winery is a small vineyard in the Spring Farm sub-region of the Clare Valley. The site is maintained using biodynamic principles. The Adelina wines are made exclusively from the estate vineyards. They are owned and run by Jennie Gardner and Colin McBryde, both with extensive wine-science backgrounds. Their precision and commitment is evident in the consistently high quality wines they produce.

The heart of the business is a couple of small blocks of old, organically farmed Grenache and Shiraz vines that are next to the Wendouree vineyard, which is Clare Valley’s most highly regarded vineyard.

M+Q NOTES

From a single site planted in the Piccadilly Valley, high in the Adelaide Hills. The vines were  planted in 1997  from soils of quartz and clay. Hand-picked and whole-bunch with a production of 150 cases.

Jericho Fiano 2016 - Adelaide Hills, South Australia

THE WINE'S STORY

Jericho is very much an emerging family producer in Australia. This Fiano is grown in Kuitpo, at a height of 320 metres in the southern end of the Adelaide hills, surrounded by forest, it is in these later ripening conditions that really suit Fiano, and it is flourishing!

SOMMELIER NOTES

Fiano originates in Campania in Italy’s South and is a super fresh, versatile white. It is textural and savoury like Chardonnay but lightly perfumed like a Chenin Blanc. Floral notes, stone fruits and chalky texture

Food suggestion

Freshly Shucker Oysters

Turning Heads Pinot Noir by Alex Head - Adelaide Hills, South Australia

THE WINE'S STORY

HEAD Wines was started in 2006 by Alex Head. It focuses on single site Rhone varietals from the Barossa and Eden Valleys in South Australia.
Each HEAD Wine shows a distinctive house style of powerful fruit weight, elegance, freshness, finesse and balance which starts by farming vineyards sustainably and in some cases using organics and biodynamics. Yields are low/controlled, grapes are hand-picked, ferments use indigenous yeasts with some retention of stems and maturation in larger format barrels. Minimal sulphur is used during the whole wine-making process and bottling is without fining or filtration. Each Head Wine not only represents Alex Head's strong views on what makes balanced, drinkable wines for the table, but a guarantee of absolute quality, value and consistency.

SOMMELIER NOTES

A project wine made by Alex, in the cool climate of the Piccadilly Valley of the Adelaide Hills. The Piccadilly valley sits underneath Mount Lofty which is the highest point of the ranges and sits at 727 meters.

A relationship built up day by day, personally supervising every moment in the production chain in all twenty three hectares of the estate. M+Q Notes
