Goodman Negroamaro 2015 - Heathcote, Victoria

Kate Goodman has been making wine for over 20 years. Her extensive experience has seen her work at Australian iconic wineries Wirra Wirra, Seppelts, Knappstein,

Dalwhinnie and more recently at Punt Road, where she was chief winemaker from 2001 to 2013. With stints in France, Spain and the USA she is now crafting wines under her own label from vineyards in both the Yarra Valley and Heathcote.

Negroamaro is an Italian red grape with its origins in Puglia, it literally means ‘black bitter’. Talking to Kate at a recent release tasting here in Melbourne, she explained that her love of drinking Negroamaro from Italy, got her curious about what she might be able to replicate if she was to produce one here in Victoria.

The result is a very good varietal example but with lighter less drying tannins than Italian styles. Layers of cinnamon, allspice, dark cherries and notes of orange peel. It holds a textural, soft palate with a subtle bitter tannin pitch.
