Bannockburn ‘Douglas’ Cabernet Blend 2012 - Geelong, Victoria

THIS WINE’S STORY

This wine is in keeping with the philosophy behind the ‘Douglas’ label, which is to produce a red wine blend that genuinely reflects each Bannockburn vintage, from estate only grown fruit. Changes in the wine style will occur because no two growing seasons are ever the same in this southerly region. The 2012 vintage produced excellent fruit quality across the range of these wines. Bannockburn’s adherence to dry-grown viticulture, with close planting organic pratices, extended macerations and careful barrel selection make these exciting wines.

In 2016 James Halliday’s Wine Companion, rated Bannockburn Winery as an Outstanding Winery, awarding it with a Red Five Star Rating.

SOMMELIER NOTES

In this ‘Geelong Claret’ incarnation, Cabernet is the star performer, with dusty blackcurrant and licorice flavours dominant. There is sufficient Merlot and Shiraz to round out the mid-palate and some savoury meaty characters add interest.

This is a bigger, bolder expression of ‘Douglas’ than previous releases, with 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and 9% Shiraz and it is just as impressive as vintages before it. This vintage of the 'Douglas' was also awarded 94 points from James Halliday.

Even Keel Chardonnay 2015 - Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

THIS WINE’S STORY

Sam Coverdale established Even Keel in 2006 with a vision to create drinkable, elegant wines that surprise and celebrate the individual strengths of Australia’s wine regions. Since 2009, he has specialised in premium, single-vineyard wines from the Mornington Peninsula, under the Polperro label. With a focus towards increased vineyard health using a mix of organic and biodynamic principles.

Even Keel’s small production of elegant and balanced wines relies on sourcing premium fruit. Ensuring supply by establishing long-term relationships with growers from individually selected vineyards in one of Australia’s best and most distinctive winegrowing regions.

A focus towards increased vineyard health, using a mix of organic and biodynamic principles is practiced in all of their Mornington Peninsula.

Sandro Fay Rosso di Valtellina Chiavennasca  2015 - Valtellina, Italy

THE WINE'S STORY

Valtellina is nestled high above Lombardy in Northern Italy, it’s spectacular background is the Swiss Alps and it’s boarder.  It was once considered the last frontier of Italian viticulture because of its challenging climate and viticulture,

it is classic alpine vine growing with vineyards ranging between 400 and 800 metres. The incline on many vineyards here is so dramatic that it makes mechanized harvesting impossible.

 M+Q NOTES

Juicy red and black berries, wildflowers, cedar, and fresh-cut herbs burst on the nose, while the palate is light, tart, and delicious--this is an easy-drinking red! This blend of 90% Nebbiolo with the remainder composed of Merlot, Brugnola, Rossola and Pignola derives from a south-facing vineyard and ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel and ages in oak barrels.
