THE WINES

Villa Locatelli Refosco DOC 2014 – Fruili, Italy

THE WINE'S STORY

Angoris villa locatelli is steeped in history. In order to thank him for his service in the 30 Years War, Locatelli Locatelli was given 300 fields in an area of Cormòns known as “Langoris” by then Emperor Ferdinand III in 1648. At the time this area of Friuli was part of the Hapsburg Empire. From this time on Tenuta di Angoris became a retreat for the royalty and èlite from throughout the Hapsburg Empire. Villa Locatelli, which still dominates the estate, became a symbol of quality and hospitality and the wines that came from the estate made their way across the royal courts of Europe. Over three centuries later it is still regarded as one of the most prestigious wineries in Friuli.

SOMMELIER NOTES

A super modern style of Chianti, that is fresh and energetic. 100% Sangiovese. Bright aromatics of black cherry and rose, that lead to a medium bodied palate full of savoury leather and slightly spicy tannins.  Only 2,080 cases made and even less made it to Australia, so buy some before it runs out!

We recommend opening this wine an hour before you need it if possible, as it opens fully with some air!

It was also the starting point for Garibaldi’s Italian unification crusade.
