Rouleur Pinot Noir 2018 - Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

Rouleur Pinot Noir 2018 - Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

The Story

Matt East grew up in the Yarra Valley, as a son of a grape grower, so he knows both the wine industry and the Yarra Valley extensively. We first met Matt at a wine trade tasting when he was State Manager for Wirra Wirra winery in McLaren Vale, before he headed out to his own label Rouleur in 2015. Matt’s approach to his own production now is refreshing and uncomplicated. He believes in ‘not messing with the natural order’ of winemaking in keeping the winemaker inputs and additions to a minimum. The name Rouleur is a cycling term, which Matt is also passionate about, meaning a ‘consistent all-rounder’.

M+Q Notes

Matt doesn’t usually work with grapes from the Mornington Peninsula but during the 2018 vintage he came across a parcel of Pinot Noir and jumped on it.  Made from two different Pinot clones that were processed separately until blending before bottling. Lifted perfume of ripe strawberry, rhubarb and a bit of earthiness. Savoury spice notes and vibrant acidity.
