Hunky Dory Pinot Noir 2016 - Marlborough, New Zealand

Hunky Dory Pinot Noir 2016 - Marlborough, New Zealand

The Story

Huia vineyards began in the late 1990s after Claire and Mike Allan moved to Marlborough from Adelaide after attending winemaking school. They spent several years learning from local winemakers including Cloudy Bay and Vavasour. They came across an old apple orchard for sale so they purchased it, ripped out the apples and planted grapes. During this time they built their winery and Huia was born officially in 1996. Hunky Dory is their other label focusing on the Rapanura region of Marlborough. These wines are created to not only be excellent value but to show the uniqueness of the Marlborough region. Both Huia and Hunky Dory vineyards are certified organic.

M+Q Notes

Pinot Noir from the upper Wairau Valley from a combination of three vineyards. After fermentation, the wine spent 10 months in French oak barrels before blending and bottling. The aromas are dark fruited with some spice and savoury notes. Flavours of dense plum, black cherry, cinnamon and vanilla. Silky tannins round out the soft, supple palate.
