The Story

Charles Mortet started his Domaine in the 1956 with only a hectare of vines. His son Denis and wife Laurence joined the Domain in 1978 at the ripe young ages of 22 and 20. By 1993, Denis took over from his father and along the way acquired parcels of land in the Premier Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques in Gevrey-Chambertin, as well as vineyard plots in Motrot, in Vellé, in Champs, and La Côte des Longeroies in Marsannay. Denis grew the winery to the be a well-respected and tip quality domaine it is today. After his tragic death in 2004, his son and wife continue the families legacy creating stunning Burgundies from small, organic vineyards.

M+Q Notes

“Top Value. A brooding but notably fresh nose combines notes of various dark berries, humus, earth and distinct sauvage aromas. There is better concentration, weight and volume to the medium-bodied flavors that deliver plenty of punch and minerality on the admirably complex, balanced and lingering finish. This is a quality Gevrey villages.” - Allen Meadows, Burghound
