Byrne Coghills Creek Pinot Noir - 2017 Ballarat, Victoria

The Story

Alex Bryne grew up around Ballarat and experienced wine making life as a teenager helping his family friends at the Taltarni winery. He moved to winery work at Dominique Portet in the Yarra Valley in 2002, before completing vintages in the Northern Rhone Valley of France, Margaret River and Argentina. His time in Burgundy in 2008, cemented his love of cool climate viticulture. He returned to Australia to take up an assistant winemaker role at Lethbridge Estate near Geelong. Current day Alex makes his very own impressive cool climate wines from vineyards at both Ballarat and Sunbury, this is high quality, small volume Australian winemaking, with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir the varieties that he excels with.

M+Q Notes

2017 was an outstanding vintage in Ballarat, as well as many other places in Australia. This Pinot has aromas of brambly berries coupled with baking spices and earth. Bright cherries and raspberries on the palate with an essence of mushrooms. The fine tannins help give the wine structure and the ability to age for years to come.
