Arfion Spring Pinot Noir 2018 - Yarra Valley, Victoria

Arfion Spring Pinot Noir 2018 - Yarra Valley, Victoria

The Story

New Zealand born David Mackintosh fell in love with the Yarra Valley during a visit and decided to set-up a winery with his brother and father. They currently have two labels, Arfion, which means ‘our wine’ in Scottish which is the families heritage, and Smokestack Lightning, which is named after a 1950s Delta Blues song. The Arfion label concentrated on low intervention wines that are representative of the sites they are sourced from. The wines do not conform to a particular style but rather a combination of factors contribute including vintage, the specific sites and ultimately a wine style that the family finds delicious to drink.

M+Q Notes

Winemaker Dave remarks that this is the best vintage in his 10+ vintages in the Yarra Valley. The fruit came from a mix of three distinct vineyards - Yarra Station, Primavera and Willowlake. The wine is full of juicy red fruit flavours with a hint of blood orange and a bit of savoury spice. Fine tannins round off the lingering finish of this vibrant Pinot that was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
