Le Moire 'Zaleuco' 2014 - Calabria, Italy
21.00

THE STORY

Zaleuco, the Luminous, named after the first lawmaker of the western world, Zaleucus (Locri, 663 bc)

The vines are situated at around 400m above sea level, on terraces that slope down to the Savuto river, surrounded by unpolluted woods. The “virgin” ecosystem and the wind that blows from
the nearby Tyrrhenean Sea, safeguard the health of the vines and so minimise the use of agropharmaceuticals. Thermals from the nearby river intensify the aromas of the native cultivars. A south west exposure to evening sun slows down the ripening of the gra- pes. This softens the harshness that can sometimes be found in wines from the south

M+Q NOTES

A blend of 40% Mantonico, 40% Pecorello; 20% Greco Bianco.

A white with warm Mediterranean tones; Fruity pear notes on the nose with flowery hints of bracken which blend with a soft, mellow fruitiness. A hint of mineral adds zest to its flavour. Soft on the palate, with a perfect balance between freshness and acidity. Perfect warm weather drinking!

FOOD SUGGESTION

Whole baked snapper

Badenhorst ‘Secateurs’ Chenin Blanc 2017 - Swartland, South Africa
28.00

THE STORY

AA Badenhorst Family Wines are grown, made and matured on Kalmoesfontein farm in the Swartland appellation of South Africa. The 28ha of old bush vines grow in the Siebritskloof part of the Paardeberg mountain. The property is owned by the dynamic cousins Hein and Adi Badenhorst. Together these two have restored a neglected cellar on the farm that was last used in the 1930′s to make natural wines in the traditional manner. On Kalmoesfontein it is back to basics, using traditional winemaking equipment and old cement kuipe, producing wine with immense character and sense of terroir.

M+Q NOTES

Bright yellow-gold this delicious wine has scents of crisp red apple, pear, fresh honey, anise and dusty wild herbs; one gets a sense of the unique granite based soils where this wine is grown from. A light touch of toast with terrific fruit concentration on the finish.

FOOD SUGGESTION

Mud Crab with a touch of chilli

Verget du Sud Méditerranée Rose 2015 - Provence, France
25.00

THE STORY

Jean-Marie Guffens is often refered to as a genius white wine maker after recieving the exclusive 3 star ranking in Le Classement, France’s most respected wine publication with his White Burgundies. He is determined to achieve the same reputation for his Provençal, southern french rosé.

From two limestone-rich vineyards in the Apt commune, high in the Provençal hinterland, that are selected, managed and harvested specifically for the rosé.

M+Q NOTES

A 50:50 blend of Grenache and Syrah with a pale pink salmon hue, this is a racy super crisp rose. Silky ripe red berries and crushed, fresh herb notes, a deliciously chewy texture, and a long tangy close. A rosé that should be in the fridge for everyday drinking!

FOOD SUGGESTION

Roasted Garfish, tomato salad

Telmo Rodriguez ‘Al-muvedre’ Monastrell 2015 - Alicante, Spain
24.00

THE STORY

Alicante is an old Mediterranean coastal vineyard area, on the East coast of Spain. It is composed of long, flat structured terraces with a marine influence, and is possibly the point of origin of Monastrell, one of the most important Spanish varieties. Historically, Alicante was a prime Mediterranean harbour and as such had an important influence on the wine industry.

Telmo Rodriguez's is Spain's best known winemaker. He makes wine across the different regions in the country and is very polished at working with a variety of different grape varieties. His aim of setting up in Alicante was to create a wine based exclusively on Monastrell: "We must not forget that a wine that is commercial, in the best sense, can also reflect what is best about the region".

M+Q NOTES

Leafy minty blueberry aromas announce this terrific expression of Monastrell. Floral, figgy and slightly meaty aromas lead to soft, wide tannins.

FOOD SUGGESTION

Bistecca alla Fiorentina

Artigiano Nero d'Avola 2015 - Sicily, Italy

M+Q NOTES

From the beautiful Mediterranean island of Sicily, Nero d'Avola is is the flagship red grape of the region. Perfumed black cherry and wild berry fruit flavours, and a smooth mid weight intensity and a super savoury long finish.

FOOD SUGGESTION

Orecchiette with broccoli, chilli and pecorino

Mount Trio Porongurup Pinot Noir 2015 - Porongurup, Western Australia
25.00

THE STORY

The Mount Trio vineyard is located in the elevated Porongurup sub-region of the Great Southern region in Western Australia, which is Australia's largest wine region in terms of size. It is home to 48 wineries. Mount Trio has been created by winemaker Gavin Berry and his wife Gill, with the aim of producing high quality, accessible and affordable wines which are true to their varietal and regional origins.

M+Q NOTES

A single vineyard wine, perfumed cherry and raspberry fruit aromas with some light plum and redcurrant fruit characters. This is a lighter, fresher style of Pinot with a gentle, lightly dry tannin structure to balance its finish.

FOOD SUGGESTION

Salumi
