THE STORY

Founded in 1973 by Andrea Visintini, this twenty-four hectare estate has vineyards in Collio, Collio Orientali and Grave del Friuli, and is now controlled by the new generation of Oliviero and his twin sisters Cinzia and Palmira. The wines are beautifully made, each with wonderful expression of both the grape and the 'terroir'. Vineyard practices are now entirely biodynamic, and certified this year.

M+Q NOTES

The source of some of Italy’s best and most distinctive white wines, Friuli-Venezia Giulia is where Italian, Germanic, and Slavic cultures converge. This wine is 100% Friulano and certified organic and uses biodynamic methods. Straw yellow colour with greenish reflections with a nose hints of almond apple and spring blossom. Dry, crisp with a touch of apple, and crunchy pineapple with racy fresh acidity.

FOOD SUGGESTION

Squid ink pasta, chilli, crab

THE WINE'S STORY

Justin Lane enjoyed a stint at the uber creative wineries Alfa Box and Dice and Redheads wineries in McLaren Vale. He has now moved to his own project winemaking and called it Big Easy Radio.

Justin works with a range of different vineyards in McLaren Vale and seems most at home working with alternative varieties. His focus is on blends, usually two varieties in each wine, and from time to time a single-varietal release but he prefers the unconventional and a chance to create unique wine.

M+Q NOTES

Blended here are two white Italian varieties for a super crisp, dry and savoury wine. Tangy citrus fruits, floral notes, and crushed stone aromas, Justin describes this as ‘Proudly walking down the beach without any pants on’

Delicious any day of the week and we are in love with it’s packaging! Very cool wines, so keep a look out for this guy in the Australian wine scene.

Adelina ‘Eternal Return’ Arneis 2016 - Adelaide Hills, SA

THIS STORY

The Adelina winery is a small vineyard in the Spring Farm sub-region of the Clare Valley. The site is maintained using biodynamic principles. The Adelina wines are made exclusively from the estate vineyards. They are owned and run by Jennie Gardner and Colin McBryde, both with extensive wine-science backgrounds. Their precision and commitment is evident in the consistently high quality wines they produce.

The heart of the business is a couple of small blocks of old, organically farmed Grenache and Shiraz vines that are next to the Wendouree vineyard, which is Clare Valley’s most highly regarded vineyard.

M+Q NOTES

The white grape Arneis, originates from Piedmont in Northern Italy, and it means ‘little rascal'. This Adelina Arneis is a fleshy, savoury and dry rendition of the grape. While Adelina winery is in the Clare Valley, this has been grown from a small parcel at the Bowe Lees vineyard at Woodside in the Adelaide Hills.

A savoury aromatic white, with refreshing acidity, spicy yellow plum and fuzzy peach with a chewy dry grip to finish with. A superb example of an Italian variety being grown in Australia and without a doubt a wine that should definitely be on everyone’s radar!

THE STORY

Winemaker Nick Farr is producing exceptional wines from his family estate vineyard in Geelong. Whilst growing up Nick worked alongside his father at the family estate and then Rosemont in the Hunter Valley, Bannockburn and overseas in Oregon, and Burgundy.

M+Q NOTES

The Farr Rising pinot vineyard was planted in 2001 and is producing outstanding Pinot Noir with exceptional depth and signature Farr minerality. Crimson purple hue with spiced plum, dark berries and exotic spice. Subtle oak and tannins make this a perfectly balanced Pinot. This really is an exceptional Pinot that deserves all the praise!

FOOD SUGGESTION

Pappardelle, duck ragu

THE WINE'S STORy

Established in 1982 by Richard and Jill McIntyre, Moorooduc Estate is a small, family run wine business that has developed an enviable reputation for complex and food friendly wines. Moorooduc's philosophy in everything is to make the most of top quality ingredients. Intensive, hands-on care in the vineyard, with minimal use of chemical to  produce the best possible fruit for their wines and allowing the wines to express their site specificity, or terroir.

M+Q NOTES

Bright garnet in colour with a nose of juicy ripe red cherries, violets, earthy complexity and just a hint of licorice and spicy notes of clove and star anise. The palate has more cherry fruit, with some savoury undertones and firm, velvety tannins. This wine is bright elegant and absolutely delicious.

FOOD SUGGESTION

Confit duck leg, radicchio salad

THE WINE'S STORY

HEAD Wines was started in 2006 by Alex Head. It focuses on single site Rhone varietals from the Barossa and Eden Valleys in South Australia.
Each HEAD Wine shows a distinctive house style of powerful fruit weight, elegance, freshness, finesse and balance which starts by farming vineyards sustainably and in some cases using organics and biodynamics. Yields are low/controlled, grapes are hand-picked, ferments use indigenous yeasts with some retention of stems and maturation in larger format barrels. Minimal sulphur is used during the whole wine-making process and bottling is without fining or filtration. Each Head Wine not only represents Alex Head's strong views on what makes balanced, drinkable wines for the table, but a guarantee of absolute quality, value and consistency.

M+Q NOTES

A project wine made by Alex, in the cool climate of the Piccadilly Valley of the Adelaide Hills. The Piccadilly valley sits underneath Mount Lofty which is the highest point of the ranges and sits at 727 meters.
