Hochkirch Blanc No SO2 - Tarrington, Victoria

Hochkirch Blanc No SO2 - Tarrington, Victoria

The Story

Hochkirch started in 1990 by Jennifer and John Nagorcka in South West Victoria at the foot of the Grampians. Conventional viticulture was initially practised but they then switched over to biodynamics in response to the climate of the region. Since 2003, they were fully certified by Demeter, an internationally recognised biodynamic regulating organisation. Hochkirch’s vineyards are planted to high density and no synthetic chemicals are used as well as no irrigation. They practise minimal intervention winemaking with natural yeasts, no additives except minimal sulphur and no filtration.

M+Q Notes

A blend of mostly Semillon with a bit of Sauvignon Blanc, this wine was bottled with no sulphur added. The long and slow fermentation started in stainless steel and continued in large oak barrels through the winter months. The wine has bright citrus flavours with a nutty character. The acidity is lively and is balanced by the textured mouthfeel that is the result of the grapes sitting on their skin for a couple days before fermentation begins.
