Pittnauer ‘Pitti’ Blaufränkisch 2016 - Burgenland, Austria

Pittnauer ‘Pitti’ Blaufränkisch 2016 - Burgenland, Austria

The Story

Burgenland is the wine growing region of Southern Austria, bordering Hungary. The Pittnauer winery has a long winemaking history in the region.

A blend of Blaufrankisch (German meaning Blue Frankonian) and Zweigelt, the more widely grown red grape of Austria, is a result of crossing the two varieties Blaufrankisch and St Laurent. The grape is also grown widely across Europe under different varietal names.

M+Q Notes

Biodynamic farmed blaufrankisch and zweigelt from Pittnauer, a trailblazing Austrian producer.  Un-oaked versions will be lighter bodied and oaked examples will be more fuller bodied but both retain a velvety plush palate. There is a simple honest feeling to the wines from the Pittnauer estate, they create what they call ‘living wines’ where all vineyard work is manual and composting and pruning assist their biodynamic practices.

Food Suggestion

Pancetta and broad bean risotto
