The Story

Established in 1941, the 140-acre estate has had a rich history of many catastrophic events. During WW2 there was occupation by Germans and then Polish military and finally Italians seeking shelter in the cellars. It was named after a military leader Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta with a focus on producing the best possible expression of the Sangiovese variety in Emilia-Romagna. This grape isn’t as well known there as it is in Tuscany but research as shown the clone used in many premium Chiantis actually originated from Emilia-Romagna.

M+Q Notes

100% Sangiovese. Punchy aromatics and flavours of dark cherry, mulberry, baked raspberry and dried herbs. Floral hints of violet and notes of earthiness. Balanced acidity and tannins and a rounded mouthfeel due to its time spent in large Slovenian oak.
