Palacios Remondo La Vendimia Rioja 2016 - Rioja, Spain

The Story

If anyone represents ‘The New Spain’ it’s Alvaro Palacios. He was born into a winemaking family and took over the Rioja family estate in 2000 when his father passed away. He makes wine in three different DOs: Priorat, Bierzo and Rioja and it is committed to preserving traditions. All of the vineyards he makes his wine from are organic and his winemaking practises are very hands-off. He is passionate about a natural approach to making wine and doesn’t add yeasts or chemicals except a small amount of SO2.

M+Q Notes

This Rioja is a blend of hand-picked and hand-sorted Garnacha and Tempranillo. The wine is made in a ‘jóven’ style which means it’s aged for less than 6 months in oak. The name ‘La Vendimia’ means ‘the harvest’ and is named this to express the potential of these young jóven wines. The resulting wine is juicy with aromas and flavours of cherries and red currants and a bit of minerality. It has silky tannins, medium acidity and is meant to be enjoyed now.
