Hochkirch Maximus Pinot Noir 2015 - Tarrington, Victoria

Hochkirch Maximus Pinot Noir 2015 - Tarrington, Victoria

The Story

Hochkirch started in 1990 by Jennifer and John Nagorcka in South West Victoria at the foot of the Grampians. Conventional viticulture was initially practised but they then switched over to biodynamics in response to the climate of the region. Since 2003, they were fully certified by Demeter, an internationally recognised biodynamic regulating organisation. Hochkirch’s vineyards are planted to high density and no synthetic chemicals are used as well as no irrigation. They practise minimal intervention winemaking with natural yeasts, no additives except minimal sulphur and no filtration.

M+Q Notes

Made from the oldest vines and the best barrels, this is the top wine of the year from John. Bursting with juicy red fruit, earth and dried herbs. The flavour profile is complex and ranges from sour cherry to forest floor to stoney minerality. The velvety tannins meld beautifully with the acidic structure and brambly berry fruit character.
