Carussin Asinoi Barbera d’Asti 2017 - Piedmont, Italy

The Story

The Carussin vineyard was founded in 1927 in S. Marzano Oliveto, a small town in the South Monferrato Asti. Today the vineyard is the fourth generation of winemakers and is managed by Bruna, her husband Luigi and her sons Luca and Matteo. The traditional vines of the territory are grown, Barbera and Moscato.  For several years, synthetic products have been banned, and the vineyard is run under certified biodynamic farming, the harvest is strictly done by hand with no machinery. In the cellar the fermentation takes place with only indigenous yeasts, spontaneously and this minimal touch is continued right through the wine making at Carussin without the use of any additives.

M+Q Notes

The wine pays homage to L’Asino which is a national association in Italy for protecting donkeys since Bruna has a special passion for this animal. Made from biodynamic Barbera vines in the Asti region of Piedmont. Aromas of red cherry, dried cranberry and hints of dried herbs. Crushed raspberry and cherry continuing on the palate with vibrant acidity and fine tannins.
